approached by vera, with initial idea. how can we make a system that makes a pattern of, rearranges, abstracts n f t in a grid of 100 squares, 98 squares are filled, 2 blank to mark her age_machine imaginaire, artist in conversation with the computer a dialogue between human and machine that stems from a shared love for letterforms--for the meaning they caryy and for the forms themselves.

The project began with 45 pencil sketches by Vera, 15 for each letter N, F, and T.

we vectorized them, to be used as basis for the project's forms

From there, we developed a system around Vera's visual language and a few key axes that span the extremes of recognizability and complete abstraction, order and disorder, simplicity and complexity. have 3 layers basically at work making up each artwork. letterforms, letter squares, and artwork grid.

manipulating the letters so still recognizable. compressing, expanding, to pulling points.. to breaking apart.

letterforms can fill a larger square area as a single letterform, 2, 3, or as a repeat pattern. again inspired by VM's works. rotation, column, rowns, scale

the square is a part of a larger grid, continuing the order-disorder, building on the abstraction, creating variation in the overall set. 1x1 - 10x10. with the possibility of blank squares. a rhythm.

departure from vm's oeuvre, known works. unexpected outcomes truly a dialogue. as algos let us imagine- inserting randmness into the process and creating artworks we would not have never made ourselves. letting the algo run, and from its outputs, in Vera's fashion, curating what we loved best. starting with human intuition and finishing with it.
